Vince Gilligan returns to science fiction with Pluribus on Apple TV, reuniting with Rhea Seehorn and already picked up for a second season. Apple describes the show as a genre-bending original in which the most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness. Rhea Seehorn plays Carol Sturka, a romantasy writer who is mysteriously immune to a viral plague that makes everyone else happy and optimistic. The premise recalls The Twilight Zone and the X-Files’ freak-of-the-week tone, blending bizarre weekly mysteries with Gilligan’s earlier sci-fi interests and visual imagination.
