In June, streaming services accounted for 46% of Americans' TV viewing time, surpassing broadcast and cable television combined for the first time. Broadcast TV fell to 18.5%, with cable at 23.4%. Roughly two-thirds of viewers aged 6 to 17 preferred streaming over conventional TV, driven by school breaks and popular series like "Ginny & Georgia" and "Squid Game." Despite this trend, conventional TV is expected to see increased viewing during the fall with the return of sports and original episodes.
In June, viewers spent more time watching streaming services than broadcast and cable television combined for the first time in history, with streaming at 46%. "A lot of people thought it would happen more quickly," said Brian Fuhrer, Nielsen's senior vice president.
For the third straight week, Nielsen reported Fox News Channel had more viewers in prime-time than the main broadcast networks ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox, reflecting shifting viewing habits.
