"On Wednesday, Spiceworks previewed its 2026 State of IT report during a session at its annual SpiceWorld conference in Austin, Texas. The 14th annual report, conducted by Aberdeen Research, surveys over 800 IT professionals from small and medium companies as well as enterprises to gather insights into the latest trends in the IT space. The key trends showed it's a good year for IT professionals."
"However, as highlighted in the session, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show a 9% projected growth in computer and IT occupations from 2024 to 2034, compared to a 3% growth for all occupations. Furthermore, the same data show that the 2024 median salary for computer and IT occupations is twice that of the median salary for all other occupations. Yet most respondents said they find it difficult to hire skilled IT talent."

Frontier technologies and AI are driving technological change, increasing demand for IT roles. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 9% growth in computer and IT occupations from 2024 to 2034, versus 3% for all occupations. The 2024 median salary for computer and IT occupations is roughly twice the median for all other occupations. Employers report difficulty hiring skilled IT talent, and IT professionals need to evolve skills to remain competitive.
