"In what appears to be a wholly original use of AI, Spotify has announced Audiobook Recaps, a kind of talking bookmark that summarizes already-heard portions of audiobooks. The idea is to allow listeners to interrupt audiobook listening for any period of time. Returning to the book days, weeks, or months later, the listener hears a recap of the book portion already read before the audiobook continues."
"The recaps are available after "the first 15-20 minutes of a bok," Spotify explains. The company emphasizes that Audiobook Recaps is copyright friendly: "The work of authors and narrators stays protected: We are not using audiobook content for LLM training purposes or voice generation, and Recaps do not replicate narration or replace the original audiobook in any way." Spotify announced Audiobook Recaps, a manual feature that provides spoken summaries of audiobook portions listeners have already heard so users can resume after interruptions. Recaps become available after the first 15–20 minutes of a book and are activated by the listener rather than occurring automatically. Spotify states that Recaps do not use audiobook content for LLM training or voice generation, do not replicate narration, and do not replace original audiobooks. Separately, longtime media executive Andy Rosen joined House Studios as Chief Product Officer after roles at A+E Networks, EW, and AOL, bringing product and consulting experience.
