Microsoft hiring energy strategists for Asian datacenters
"Microsoft wants whoever gets the gigs to "Lead and implement datacenter power interconnection projects, power purchase agreement and/or energy supply contract development with utilities and third-party energy suppliers in support of Microsoft's DC businesses in APAC and associated objectives related to capacity delivery, cost and sustainability.""
"Vietnamese telco Viettel on Saturday broke ground on the nation's first chipmaking plant. The company plans to offer foundry services on a 32-nanometer process and Viettel will target customers who want chips for industries including aerospace, telecommunications, IoT, automotive manufacturing, and medical devices. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hailed the plant as a strategic moment for Vietnam, as while the nation is already home to businesses that contribute to the global semiconductor industry in many ways it lacks the ability to build chips."
Microsoft advertised three Senior Energy Program Manager positions in the APAC region, with two roles in Australia and one in Singapore. The roles include strategizing and executing end-to-end energy plans, leading datacenter power interconnection projects, and developing power purchase agreements or energy supply contracts with utilities and third-party suppliers to support datacenter capacity, cost, and sustainability objectives. Microsoft also posted openings for a Principal Civil/Geotech Engineer and a regional datacenter lease lead across Southeast Asia. Vietnamese telco Viettel broke ground on a 32-nanometer foundry, targeting customers across aerospace, telecommunications, IoT, automotive, and medical sectors, with operations planned to start in 2027.
