"Mia Hamant on our soccer team is going through tough, tough struggles with cancer. We're just trying to be there to support her."
Mia Hamant, 21, was a goalkeeper for Washington's women's soccer team who helped the Huskies reach the Big Ten tournament semifinals as a junior. She posted a 0.66 goals-against average, the third-lowest single-season mark in program history, and sat out her senior season after an April diagnosis of Stage 4 kidney cancer. She stepped away to begin chemotherapy and received visible support across the athletic department, attended a football game and sounded the Husky Stadium siren. The Big Ten honored her with the 2025 Sportsmanship Award. She died Thursday following a bout with kidney cancer, leaving a lasting legacy in the program.
