Voting in the Athlete of the Week poll forbids bots and artificial methods; suspicious activity can cause candidate disqualification and poll suspension. Votes sent by email or submitted after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted. The poll runs through the academic year and invites readers to vote on a weekly list of standout high school athletes for performances from Dec. 29 through Jan. 3. Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print sports sections of the Mercury News and East Bay Times. Nominations are accepted via highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com until 11 a.m. each Monday; stats from coaches and team statisticians are reviewed.
