Jennings, 80, previously said of the auction that he felt it was the right time to sell, adding that he had also kept a few items for himself."
"The items sold included Jennings' green Spurs v Aston Villa League Cup Final match-worn goalkeeper's shirt from 1971 for 21,800, and his green Spurs v Chelsea FA Cup Final match-worn goalkeeper's shirt from 1967 for 20,600. The lots also included shirts from other players such as a George Best green and white number seven Northern Ireland worn long-sleeved shirt from 1976 which sold for 20,600 and a Luis Arconada light blue and black Spain matc"
Pat Jennings' collection of around 165 football jerseys and memorabilia sold for more than £400,000 at auction, over twice the pre-sale estimate of about £200,000. The collection included items from Jennings' spells at Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur as well as shirts worn earlier in his career. Jennings played 119 international matches for Northern Ireland over a 22-year international career and represented Newry Town, Watford, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, winning the FA Cup with both north London clubs. The sale attracted buyers from the UK and more than 100 overseas bidders. A new record for a UK goalkeeper's shirt was set when a 1973 blue Spurs v Norwich match-worn shirt sold for £33,480, while other final shirts fetched over £20,000.
