Lampard criticised as Southampton and Coventry fined
"It [the Commission] considered the behaviour of FL, both in goading the fans and in interacting with THB to have been unacceptable and the catalyst for what followed, albeit that it did not excuse the behaviour of others."
"doing some signals and throwing his arms against our fans"
"you are better than that"
"You're a young lad - show me some respect."
A melee erupted inside the centre circle at St Mary's after a 1-1 Championship draw, involving players and coaching staff pushing each other. The independent Regulatory Commission found Frank Lampard's goading of supporters and his interaction with Taylor Harwood-Bellis to have been unacceptable and the catalyst for the confrontation. Southampton defender Leo Scienza reported Lampard making signals and gesturing at fans, and Harwood-Bellis described his exchange with Lampard. Coventry provided no written or oral response to the charge. Both clubs accepted charges of failing to ensure staff behaved appropriately and were fined, with Coventry's prior incidents treated as aggravating.
