He was frozen out in August yet still logged surprising minutes early on. After announcing his decision to leave this Summer following an eight-year spell with Die Rekordmeister, Goretzka has since recorded zero minutes of playing time. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said the coach and club have spoken with Goretzka, that he understands competition for midfield places and the desire to give youngsters minutes, and that there is nothing to discuss. Goretzka has continued to act professionally and provides useful midfield depth in an injury-hit squad.
