Enzo Maresca leaves Chelsea after 18 months in charge with Liam Rosenior the early favourite to take over
""Chelsea Football Club and head coach Enzo Maresca have parted company," read a club statement. "With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track.""
"Maresca claimed following his side's 2-0 win over Everton on December 13 he had endured his "worst 48 hours" at the club because "many people didn't support me and the team"."
Enzo Maresca has parted company with Chelsea after a run of one win from seven Premier League games, leaving the club fifth and 15 points behind leaders Arsenal. The club cited the need to maximise chances across four competitions, including Champions League qualification, as the reason for the change. Maresca, appointed in June 2024, led the side to fourth place, Champions League qualification, the Conference League and Club World Cup. His contract ran until 2029. Reports suggested strained relations with club figures, and Liam Rosenior, Strasbourg head coach, is now bookmakers' early favourite to replace him.
