Enzo Maresca leaves Chelsea after 18 months in charge
"Chelsea Football Club and head coach Enzo Maresca have parted company,"
"With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track."
"he had endured his "worst 48 hours" at the club because "many people didn't support me and the team"."
Chelsea have parted company with head coach Enzo Maresca after a poor run of form that produced one win from the last seven Premier League games and left the club fifth, 15 points behind leaders Arsenal. The club stated that with objectives across four competitions, including Champions League qualification, a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track. Maresca was appointed in June 2024, secured a fourth-place finish and Champions League qualification last season, and won the Conference League and Club World Cup. His final match was a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth; he missed the post-match press conference, reportedly due to illness, and had said he endured his "worst 48 hours" because "many people didn't support me and the team". Liam Rosenior, head coach of Strasbourg, a club owned by Chelsea parent company BlueCo, is the early bookmaker favourite to replace him.
