Braintree sign Emmanuel-Thomas after jail term
"repaid his debt to society"
"Having spoken to Jimmy Ball at AFC Totton a few weeks ago and knowing that the boy was looking to relocate, [I] decided to have a look at Jay. "Myself and Dugs (assistant manager Karl Duguid) feel he still has a lot to offer and look forward to him contributing to our quest to stay in the National League."
"hadn't felt the timing worked"
Braintree Town signed Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and placed him in the matchday squad to face Truro City. The striker joined on an undisclosed contract after a brief spell with AFC Totton. Emmanuel-Thomas served more than 10 months of a four-year sentence, having been jailed for masterminding the importation of 600,000 worth of cannabis. Chairman Lee Harding said the striker had "repaid his debt to society." Manager Steve Pitt had engaged with the player’s agent while the player was still in custody and later reviewed him following contact with Jimmy Ball at AFC Totton. Braintree sit 22nd in the National League and named Emmanuel-Thomas as a substitute for the relegation‑battle match scheduled at 15:03 GMT.
