Bayern Munich exec breaks down why Dayot Upamecano should stay
"It's common knowledge that we want to extend Upamecano's contract. And I also believe we have nothing to be ashamed of regarding what we've offered him. It [the offer] reflects the outstanding performances Upa has delivered this season. Other factors often play a role in such a decision, not just the financial aspect. It shouldn't be about every last euro,"
"The fact that the coach and coaching staff have extended their contracts is just as important. It's also about whether the family feels comfortable, whether he has a good standing within the team and with the coach. Whether he's playing for an ambitious club that actually wins things. Whether we're playing attractive football. And I think those are good reasons for him to stay at FC Bayern."
Two major sticking points — a signing bonus and a short-term release clause — have emerged in Dayot Upamecano's contract-extension negotiations with Bayern Munich. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said the club wants to keep Upamecano and that the proposed offer reflects his outstanding performances this season. Dreesen stressed that non-financial factors such as family comfort, standing within the team, coaching stability, ambition, and attractive football are important to the decision. Dreesen declined to predict the outcome and said Max Eberl and Christoph Freund are primarily handling talks. Upamecano will be free to hold formal talks with other clubs in under two weeks.
