"Personally I think I'd be scared beyond reason if I was driving a snowcat and it started to slide down the mountain, rather than drive down the mountain, but snowcat driver John Stafford seems remarkably calm while doing so. You can even hear the reverse beeps going off, despite the groomer still continuing down the hill..."
"Based on the comments, this looks to be on Chin Clip at Stowe in Vermont, a black run off the Gondola. While it appears like he's sliding out of control, Stafford states that he left a pretty solid pass, hitting the run while on the way to do some winch grooming."
"Apparently when the cat is in a slide it can still be turned and controlled with the blade, but Stafford was able to just send it straight because there weren't any turns in that section of the run. Pretty wild and impressive stuff."
John Stafford, a snowcat driver, remained remarkably calm while his groomer slid down a steep run. Reverse beeps are audible as the groomer continues down the hill. The incident occurred on Chin Clip at Stowe in Vermont, a black run off the Gondola. Stafford had left a solid pass while heading to perform winch grooming, and the groomer appeared to be sliding rather than driving. A sliding snowcat can still be steered and controlled with the blade, and Stafford sent the machine straight because that section of the run had no turns. Observers described the event as wild and impressive.
