Tech giant Microsoft moves conference from hometown to San Francisco
"Build has been in many different locations over the years, but it clearly has an identity with the Seattle area, but like with everything in software, it's a little bit of ship to learn. Let's ship it to San Francisco and see what we learn this year with that audience that can come and join us, and see about the years following."
"Microsoft is billing the event as designed for AI developers, technical leaders, and enterprise developers - it'll be a two-day showcase of Microsoft's artificial intelligence tools and plans, with demos, a keynote, workshops and prominent speakers. In-person tickets cost $1,099."
Microsoft announced that its 2026 Build developer conference will take place in San Francisco at Fort Mason, marking the first time since 2016 that the event will be held outside Seattle. CEO Satya Nadella made the announcement via X. The two-day conference targets AI developers, technical leaders, and enterprise developers, featuring AI tool demonstrations, keynotes, workshops, and prominent speakers, with in-person tickets priced at $1,099. GitHub's COO Kyle Daigle characterized the San Francisco location as an experimental approach to test audience engagement and gather insights for future conference locations. Microsoft previously held its Ignite conference in San Francisco and maintains significant Bay Area presence through subsidiaries LinkedIn and GitHub.
