Quick bites: Sharks Lose Chernyshov; Beat Habs
"There was no call on the play and, perhaps even more angering, no five minute major called simply so the refs could review the footage and get a call correct. Whether deliberate or not in causing the fall, Matheson clearly made contact with Chernyshov, instigating the turn of events. What's more, his stick appeared to get caught up in Chernyshov's skates, causing the young forward to lose his balance and go down hard."
"Chernyshov didn't return to the game, though he was with the team afterwards. According to San Jose Hockey Now's Sheng Peng, the forward went to the hospital and was released. He is cleared to travel with the team to Ottawa."
"Desharnais, on Matheson hit on Chernyshov: "Matheson, Carrier, they all came to me after the 1st and asked me, Is he okay? I think it was kind of a bad luck play, and I don't think Mikey meant for that to happen and just bad luck.""
During the first period of Saturday's game between the San Jose Sharks and Montreal Canadiens, Igor Chernyshov collided with defenseman Mike Matheson while carrying the puck up the ice. Matheson's stick became caught in Chernyshov's skates, causing the forward to lose balance and fall hard. No penalty was called on the play, and no five-minute major was issued for review. Chernyshov was helped off the ice and did not return to the game. He was taken to the hospital but was released and cleared to travel with the team. Despite the scary incident early in the game, the Sharks regrouped and secured a 4-2 victory on the road.
