"Do you see these as two silvers gained, or two golds lost?"
"You got to give lots of credit to Eileen Gu for responding brilliantly back to the reporter with great confidence. She looked him in the eye said that was a "ridiculous perspective" without any hesitation or fear. 😁 pic.twitter.com/fPz5uQIosT- Alvin Foo (@alvinfoo) February 18, 2026"
""How do I say this?" she continued. "Winning a medal at the Olympics is a life-changing experience for every athlete. Doing it five times is exponentially harder. Because every medal is equally hard for me, but everybody else's expectations rise, right? And so, the 'two medals lost' situation, to be quite frank with you, I think is kind of a ridiculous perspective to take.""
Eileen Gu, born in San Francisco and competing for China in freestyle skiing, has won five Olympic medals across Beijing 2022 and Milan-Cortina 2026. She earned two golds and one silver in Beijing and has won two silvers so far in Italy, becoming the most decorated women's freestyle skiing Olympian. One event remains: the women's freeski halfpipe final on February 21, 2026. A reporter asked whether the results represented "two silvers gained, or two golds lost," and Gu rejected that framing, calling it a ridiculous perspective and saying each Olympic medal is life-changing and that winning five is exponentially harder.
