Meet the 28 people tasked to reshape San Francisco's constitution
"Six are from the business and development sector, two are from urban think tanks, and five herald from universities and community nonprofits. Just one is from organized labor. Notably absent is any personnel associated with TogetherSF, the defunct group behind a failed $9.5 million campaign last year to pass a ballot measure that would have drastically reshaped the charter. It was, however, heavily financed by Moritz."
"Six top City Hall officials are involved in the charter reform working group, coming from the Board of Supervisors, the mayor's office and city departments. Rafael Mandelman, who is leading the effort, is joined by two newly elected supervisors - one from the moderate slate and one from the progressives.Bilal Mahmood of District 5, who during the November 2024 election was backed by political pressure groups such as GrowSF, is joining the group; GrowSF also"
Mayor Daniel Lurie and Board President Rafael Mandelman assembled a 28-person working group to reform San Francisco’s 548-page city charter. The group includes six City Hall officials, six business and development representatives, four from political pressure groups, four from philanthropy including a foundation tied to Michael Moritz, two urban think tank members, five from universities and community nonprofits, and only one organized labor representative. TogetherSF personnel are absent despite prior heavy spending to reshape the charter. Newly elected supervisors Bilal Mahmood and Chyanne Chen serve on the task force, and Alicia John-Baptiste represents the mayor.
