Federal immigration 'surge' called off across greater Bay Area
"Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee said in a press release on Friday that she has been told by Alameda County's sheriff that ICE and border patrol operations have been called off for the rest of the Bay Area in addition to San Francisco. "I spoke with Alameda County Sheriff Yesenia Sanchez, who confirmed through her communications with ICE that Border Patrol operations are cancelled for the greater Bay Area - which includes Oakland - at this time," Lee said. Mayor Daniel Lurie yesterday announced that an anticipated immigration enforcement action in San Francisco was abruptly curtailed by President Donald Trump, who also put out a statement on his Truth Social platform. While the president's statement only mentioned San Francisco, today's communiques from Bay Area leaders indicate the so-called "surge" will not imminently take place in any Bay Area locale."
