North Bay woman paralyzed from waist down after tree limb crushes her
Strong winds in Santa Rosa on May 17 toppled tree limbs and knocked out power. A 22-year-old woman was at a park near Steele Lane Elementary School when she heard a crack and limbs fell. She suffered a spinal cord injury, fractured vertebrae, and broken and bruised ribs. Emergency crews treated her at the scene before transferring her to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. Her family said it is unclear whether feeling or movement will return and described the injury as catastrophic. Medical bills are increasing, and a GoFundMe raised more than $40,000 in four days. The storm also caused a fatality when a 61-year-old man was struck by a tree branch in Santa Clara.
"She just she loves people she loves engaging with the world just a strong upbeat optimistic person you know? She's like one of the friends, maybe the one friend in the group that's like a beacon of positivity."
