I Tested 10 Popular Date-Night Boxes With My Hinge Dates
"As mentioned above, I met all of these dates (besides one) through Hinge, with four dates being people I am currently dating or had dated in the recent past. The rest I went out with specifically in order to test these date-night boxes. I assessed each for quality of items, clarity of directions, and overall ability to get us to connect. Many had similar premises, so it became easier to recognize what gimmicks succeeding in helping foster connection, and which were just cheesy or cheap."
"I tested each of the boxes as I was directed to, regardless of how embarrassing, to see if these boxes could deliver on their promises. Although these date-night boxes are engineered specifically for longer-term couples, I thought doing the majority of them with people I had recently met, or am casually dating would be a fun, unexpected way to test the contents and idea behind the box without the fog of relationship baggage."
Most dates were met through Hinge, with four being people currently dated or recently dated; the remaining dates were arranged specifically to test date-night boxes. Each box was assessed for quality of items, clarity of directions, and overall ability to generate connection. Similar premises across boxes made it easier to distinguish effective engagement tactics from gimmicky or cheap ones. Each box was used exactly as directed, including potentially embarrassing activities, to evaluate whether the boxes could deliver on their promises. Boxes targeted longer-term couples but were largely tested with recent or casual dates without relationship baggage. Safety precautions included vetting dates, public meetups beforehand, and sharing location and date information with trusted contacts.
