Hospital's A&E 'needs more staff to stop corridor care'

Norma Campbell attended the Leytonstone hospital emergency department displaying life-threatening sepsis signs on January 13, 2024. Despite early detection of her condition, she did not receive prompt care in alignment with NICE guidelines. She passed away less than 24 hours later, leading to an inquest that found her death resulted from natural causes amplified by neglect. Significant delays in administering intravenous antibiotics and a lack of appropriate monitoring and fluid resuscitation were noted, contributing to her decline in health during treatment.
The inquest concluded that Mrs Campbell died of natural causes, contributed to by neglect, due to delays in administering necessary sepsis care and fluid resuscitation.
Despite early detection of sepsis, Mrs Campbell was not given prompt care, leading to a series of delays in administering critical antibiotics and fluids.
