Gov. Newsom approves $90M in emergency funds for Planned Parenthood clinics
"I heard one word repeatedly, empowering. How empowering it is to feel seen and safe. How empowering it is to receive empathy and care."
"President Trump's tax bill cut off Medicaid funding to abortion providers across the U.S. in July."
"Last week, Planned Parenthood said at least 23 of its health clinics have been forced to close, including one location in Madera."
California signed legislation to provide $90 million in one-time emergency funds for Planned Parenthood and other women's health providers. The funding increase rose from an originally earmarked $60 million after the state recorded stronger revenue growth over the past two months. A federal change in July cut off Medicaid funding to abortion providers nationwide. At least 23 Planned Parenthood clinics have closed, including a location in Madera. First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom described patient responses as empowering and emphasized empathy and care. Assemblymember David Tangipa criticized the targeted spending and urged broader funding for hospitals and labor and delivery services in Madera County.
