"This community wants... whatever we can do to make our schools safer,"
"If that means you have armed security and drones and AI and license plate readers, bring it on."
"We are in the hub of an urban setting of Los Angeles, in one of the most recognizable cities on the planet. So we are always a target and that means our kids are a target and our staff are a target,"
"multiple threats per day."
Beverly Hills High School has deployed a wide array of AI surveillance technologies, including video drones, behavioral-analysis cameras in hallways, Flock license plate readers, and audio capture devices in bathrooms. The district reported $4.8 million in security spending for fiscal year 2024–2025. District leadership framed extensive surveillance and armed security as community-driven measures to counter unspecified daily threats. School systems across North America are adopting similar AI tools to address fears of school violence. The rapid, largely unregulated adoption of these technologies creates new risks to student privacy, civil liberties, and overall safety.
