Almost a dozen Sea of Thieves Partner Program content creators stepped down after allegations of child sexual abuse were made against a community Boatswain. The Boatswain title is used to recognize creators who are positive members of the community. Bruno, also known as Heslashthem, was previously accused of inappropriate conversations with underage players on Discord and in streams. Claims were compiled in a document called “The Bruno Files,” including screenshots of alleged Discord messages. A later update added new allegations based on additional alleged screenshots showing Bruno soliciting explicit pictures from an anonymous player alleged to be underage. Other creators accused Rare’s Discord moderation team of deleting messages and trying to bury the controversy. Bruno deleted online accounts, and a senior community manager stated Bruno’s Sea of Thieves account was banned and his Discord account was also banned.
