Rangers coach Sullivan to miss Sunday's game due to personal reasons
"Mike Sullivan was a last-minute scratch from running the bench for the Rangers Sunday night against the Detroit Red Wings due to what the team said were personal reasons. In his absence, assistant coaches David Quinn and Joe Sacco shared the responsibility for coaching the team."
"After Sunday's game, the Rangers are flying Monday to Las Vegas, where they begin a three-game road trip Tuesday against theGolden Knights. The trip continues Thursday in Denver against the Colorado Avalanche, and Saturday in Salt Lake City against the Utah Mammoth. It is unknown whether whatever prevented Sullivan from coaching Sunday's game might also keep him from joining the Rangers on the road trip."
"Sacco, 56, was an assistant coach with the Boston Bruins for 10 years before being promoted to associate head coach before last season, and then taking over as interim coach a year ago when Jim Montgomery was fired. When he didn't get the permanent Bruins job after last season, Sacco joined Sullivan's staff. He is responsible for the forwards and the penalty kill."
Mike Sullivan missed coaching Sunday’s game against Detroit due to personal reasons, and assistants David Quinn and Joe Sacco shared coaching responsibilities. Sullivan, 57, is in his first season as Rangers coach after parting ways with the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he coached more than a decade and led two Stanley Cup teams. The Rangers fly Monday for a three-game road trip to Las Vegas, Denver and Salt Lake City, and Sullivan’s availability for the trip is uncertain. Quinn, 59, previously coached the Rangers and oversees defensemen and the power play. Sacco, 56, joined the staff after a long Bruins tenure and handles forwards and the penalty kill.
