It has always been about where I can make the most meaningful difference and help make people's lives better." "This decision is rooted in where I believe I can do the most good immediately. The State Senate is where critical decisions are being made on housing affordability, addressing the mental health crisis, safeguarding our environment, and defending New York from the Tr*mp agenda.""
""Tonight, the people of the 47th District made a clear choice for progress, integrity, and leadership that shows up,""
""I'm deeply grateful to every voter, volunteer, and neighbor who believed that government should work harder for working families - and I'm excited to""
Erik Bottcher, 46 and a former New York City Council member for District 3, was sworn into the New York State Senate after a decisive special-election victory. Bottcher initially announced a congressional bid for Jerry Nadler's seat, then withdrew to run for the 47th State Senate seat vacated by Brad Hoylman-Sigal, who resigned to become Manhattan borough president. Bottcher framed the move as a chance to make a meaningful, immediate difference on housing affordability, the mental health crisis, environmental protection, and resisting the Trump agenda. Bottcher won 91.7% of the vote; Republican Charlotte Friedman received 7.6%.
