Despite their depth at center, Ritchie remained with the NHL squad through all of training camp, appearing as if he may make the opening night roster. Matthew Schaefer appeared in four preseason games and projects to spend the season on Long Island, offering speed and transitional ability that add a new element to the roster while acknowledging expected growing pains. Calum Ritchie impressed through training camp, fits in three zones and on special teams, and will likely see NHL action though a lower-body injury may lead to an assignment to Bridgeport with a near-term call-up probable. Max Shabanov shows skills suited to the smaller ice and scored during the preseason.
