""I'm appreciative that those measures are on the ballot," Mr. Mamdani said, filling his 60-second answer with platitudes and grand promises of more construction."
""What is your opinion Zohran?" Mr. Sliwa pressed."
""Yes or no? Tell the truth. Answer the question for once," Mr. Cuomo said."
Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee and 34-year-old state assemblyman, stumbled on questions about how he would vote on three affordable-housing ballot measures and about eliminating mayoral control of schools. Moderators pressed for clear positions and Mamdani responded with platitudes and broad promises of more construction rather than definitive yes-or-no answers. Andrew Cuomo said he would support the housing measures; Curtis Sliwa said he would not and directly challenged Mamdani. Mamdani’s campaign emphasizes affordability policies such as free buses, free childcare, a rent freeze on stabilized apartments, and city-owned grocery stores. Early voting begins Saturday and polls show Mamdani leading Cuomo by double digits while Sliwa trails under 20 percent.
