"Donald Trump, since I know you're watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up,"
"If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him,"
"If you want to see what congressional Democrats wish to do to America, just look at the result of yesterday's election in New York where their party installed a communist as the mayor of the largest city in the nation,"
"New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants and, as of tonight, led by an immigrant,"
Zohran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral election and immediately confronted President Donald Trump at his Brooklyn victory party. Mamdani challenged Trump directly, asserting the city that produced Trump can show the nation how to defeat him. Trump responded publicly, calling Mamdani a communist and vowing to fight the result while broadly linking Democratic politicians to Mamdani's victory. Mamdani, born in Uganda and naturalized after college, emphasized New York's immigrant identity and framed his victory as resistance to an aggressive, anti-immigrant presidential agenda. Trump had previously threatened to defund the city and to arrest and deport Mamdani if he won.
