A three-year probe uncovered a scheme in which Long Island Rail Road workers manufactured, sold and used cloned swipe cards to clock in absent employees. The fraud occurred at Ronkonkoma, Richmond Hill and West Side facilities and involved 36 employees, including seven gang foremen. Supervisors swiped in colleagues, boasted of immunity, and misrepresented presence during overtime shifts. The misconduct resulted in suspensions and resignations. None of the implicated employees fully cooperated with investigators. The probe began with an anonymous complaint about a duplicate ID at Ronkonkoma and revealed widespread timekeeping abuses.
