In Manhattan's Flatiron District, a penthouse with a private rooftop pool has returned to the market for $35 million. The property belongs to Teddy and Elise Kang, who customized the space significantly after purchasing it for $16.76 million in 2017. It features a six-bedroom layout with luxurious amenities, including an outdoor kitchen and a spacious dining area. The couple emphasized the need for outdoor space in the city, which proved difficult to find. The building renovation allowed for their vision of an oasis in the sky to become a reality, showcasing high-end details throughout.
The Kangs bought the unit for $16.76 million in 2017 and worked closely with developer Toll Brothers City Living to combine two and a half floors into a sprawling six-bedroom, 5.5 bathroom penthouse.
Kang told the Wall Street Journal in 2022, ... 'There's a lack of outdoor space where you can just go home, relax and soak in the sun or do outdoor activities.'
Access across the three levels is via a dramatic spiral staircase finished in Venetian plaster and modeled after one at the Edition Hotel near Madison Square Park.
Flatiron, by contrast, offered the flexibility they needed to bring their vision to life. The building presented a 'unique opportunity,' Kang said.
