Masked ICE agents have detained immigrants and families at the immigration court in Lower Manhattan’s Federal Plaza for nearly a year. Since summer 2025, enforcement activity has moved beyond court hallways into the streets, including raids in Chinatown and a reported assault in Brooklyn. Tom Morello and immigrant advocates condemned ICE operations and President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, citing a kidnapping of a family friend and the deportation of a grandmother without due process. Morello contrasted the treatment of immigrants with unrelated allegations involving other individuals. Speakers demanded passage of the New York for All Act, which would prevent local law enforcement from aiding or cooperating with ICE. Murad Awawdeh and Allan Dabrio Marrero were also referenced as having been detained and held in ICE custody for months.
