"I hopped out of my bed because I needed to pee, and my left leg just collapsed under me and I fell to the floor. I couldn't even break the fall with my left arm because it wasn't working either. I tried to hop back up again, and I couldn't. I realized I had 'fallen and I can't get up!' It was this point I thought, 'Oh shit, I'm having a stroke!' I still have a lot of great stuff in me, but right now I gotta lotta of rehabbing to do."
Jello Biafra, the original lead singer and co-founder of Dead Kennedys, experienced a hemorrhagic stroke on March 7 due to high blood pressure. The incident occurred when he got out of bed and his left leg collapsed, followed by loss of function in his left arm. Biafra recognized the symptoms and sought medical attention, currently remaining stable in the hospital. Beyond Dead Kennedys, which he led from 1978 to 1986, Biafra maintained an extensive music career including work with Lard, Witch Trials, and recent collaborations. He declined to rejoin Dead Kennedys when they reformed in 2001, following a 1998 lawsuit regarding royalties.
