Taeil, former singer of K-Pop group NCT, is sentenced to three years after pleading guilty to rape

South Korean singer Taeil, formerly of NCT, was sentenced to 3½ years in prison for raping a Chinese tourist in 2024. The Seoul Central District Court handed down the sentence after Taeil and two accomplices pleaded guilty to charges of special quasi-rape. All three were also required to undergo 40 hours of sexual violence treatment. Initially facing seven years in prison, their sentences were reduced due to being first-time offenders. SM Entertainment confirmed that Taeil would no longer participate in group activities due to his criminal charges.

Taeil, along with two other men, pleaded guilty to special quasi-rape charges and were ordered to complete 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program.
SM Entertainment terminated its contract with Taeil, stating they recognized the seriousness of the situation and would no longer continue his activities with NCT.
The court halved the men’s sentences from an initial seven years sought by prosecutors, taking into account that they were first-time offenders.
