"The wait is finally over; we're so excited lossless sound is rolling out to Premium subscribers,"
"We've taken time to build this feature in a way that prioritizes quality, ease of use, and clarity at every step, so you always know what's happening under the hood. With Lossless, our premium users will now have an even better listening experience."
Spotify will offer lossless FLAC audio to Premium subscribers, supporting up to 24-bit and 44.1 kHz, with rollout starting today and expanding to more markets in coming weeks. The company prioritized quality, ease of use, and clarity when building the feature, describing Lossless as improving the listening experience. Competitors launched earlier: Tidal introduced CD-quality HiFi in 2015, Amazon Music HD added CD and high-resolution tracks in 2019, and Apple Music began offering lossless and high-resolution streaming to all subscribers in 2021. Several artists have removed music from Spotify citing CEO Daniel Ek's venture investments in defense-related companies.
