Megadeth Unleash Defiant New Song "I Don't Care"
"How many times have you wanted to say this to someone?"
"I know you want to! Deep down inside, if we had the balls, we would tell more people, 'I don't care' more often."
"Part of the main riff in this track had been floating around in my head since we did TSTD&TD, so I was pumped to start recording 'I Don't Care' for this LP."
"I really love the guitar nuances in the track. There is the main rhythm riff, next, a very deliberate down-picking part, next, the octave chords with jump picking on octave notes (while still down-picking!). And the soloing and back and forth between me and Teemu [Mäntysaari] is magnificent!!"
Megadeth unveiled 'I Don't Care' as the second single from their self-titled final album, due January 23. Dave Mustaine described the lyric as an often-unspoken sentiment and said part of the song's main riff dates back to sessions for The Sick, The Dying... And The Dead!. Mustaine highlighted guitar nuances, including the main rhythm riff, deliberate down-picking, octave chords with jump picking, and solo interplay with Teemu Mäntysaari. The single follows 'Tipping Point' and the album includes a new version of Metallica's 'Ride the Lightning,' which Mustaine co-wrote. Megadeth will begin a farewell tour in 2026, possibly lasting up to five years, with Latin American, European festival, and Iron Maiden support dates. A skate-themed video directed by Keith J Leman accompanies the single.
