Dropkick Murphys Singer Joins Boston Unions at Anti-ICE Rally: "Hell Yeah, Abolish ICE"
"Hell yeah, abolish ICE. They're coming door to door, going to people's houses, snatching people off the street, taking people who are taking part in the immigration process the way they're supposed to, How do you show up and snatch someone when they're showing up for their hearing? That just proves we're not trying to establish any proper chain of immigration here. [They're] just trying to basically get brown people off the street is what I think they're trying to accomplish."
"I like to see the thought of a general strike because I think in the long run it might be our only way out of this mess... if you're talking about the workers in the unions, that's the infrastructure to be the tip of the spear to make the change to put forth the effort to mobilize,"
Ken Casey joined about a thousand labor union and community members at an anti-ICE rally near South Bay Mall in frigid temperatures. The Greater Boston Labor Council and citywide leadership of the largest federation of workers in the United States were present. Casey, the son of a union worker and local teamster, condemned ICE actions as door-to-door snatching and argued the agency targets brown people and undermines proper immigration procedures. Casey called for mobilization of union workers and proposed a general strike as a potential path to abolish or reform ICE. Casey will perform the anti-ICE song "Citizen I.C.E." on the upcoming U.S. tour starting February 9.
