Woman jailed for two-and-a-half years over sustained campaign of harassment on surgeon who operated on her

Ethel Noonan, 45, from Cork carried out a sustained campaign of harassment because she was unhappy with a medical procedure. She sent emails to the consultant surgeon, the surgeon's colleagues, and other contacts that slandered the surgeon's reputation with false allegations. The emails accused the surgeon of engaging in female genital mutilation, alleged involvement in a "dark underworld of child porn", and called for the surgeon to be locked up. The false claims aimed to damage professional standing and incite punishment. Noonan was prosecuted and sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for her actions.
