A 19-year-old student at the Catholic University in Lublin was detained in November on suspicion of planning an explosives attack at a Christmas market and seeking contact with the Islamic State. Investigators say he attempted to procure materials for the attack and that data storage devices and items related to Islam were seized from his apartment. Prosecutors charged him with undertaking preparatory actions that could have caused death or serious injury to many people, and a court ordered three months' detention. Authorities referenced earlier arrests in Olsztyn and urged public vigilance in light of recent attacks such as Bondi Beach.
