"Rises in electricity prices, meanwhile, are due to push up the cost of home-charging an electric vehicle (EV), this month's AA Ireland Fuel Price survey has found. Another hike in carbon tax on the night of the budget at the start of this month added between 2c and 3c to the price of a litre of both diesel and petrol."
"The latest fuel survey shows the cost of a litre of petrol has gone up by 2c at the pumps to €1.72 a litre when compared with last month. Diesel is now 1c dearer at €1.68 compared with the September price. AA Ireland also warned that the cost of charging an EV at home would rise, with Bord Gáis Energy, Energia, Pinergy and SSE Airtricity hiking electricity prices this month. Flogas raised its electricity prices in August."
A carbon tax increase added between 2c and 3c to a litre of petrol and diesel at the start of the month. Petrol now costs €1.72 a litre, up 2c month-on-month, while diesel is €1.68, up 1c. Several electricity suppliers raised household tariffs in mid-October and earlier, which will push up the cost of home EV charging. Nearly 100,000 electric vehicles are in the State. Families face a combined squeeze from higher pump prices, rising electricity and EV-charging tariffs, and other living-cost increases. Switching to off-peak EV-charging tariffs can significantly reduce charging costs.
