Nearly 300 gardaí attended clashes outside the Citywest Hotel after large crowds gathered following an alleged sexual assault nearby. Gardaí used pepper spray and deployed riot units and a helicopter as fireworks and bottles were hurled and protesters were pushed back. A garda vehicle was set on fire and significant damage followed, including smashed glass, broken bricks and destroyed electricity meter housings whose red bricks were scavenged as missiles. Luas services from Saggart to Belgard were suspended. Forensic teams collected evidence while council workers began clean-up. A 26-year-old man appeared in court in connection with the alleged assault.
