"The EU is considering the tariffs in response to Donald Trump's threats to impose levies on eight countries that have opposed the US president's aim of taking control of Greenland. Speaking to reporters in the Swiss mountain resort of Davos on the first day of the World Economic Forum, Bessent said, "I think it would be very unwise" when asked about the possibility of EU tariffs."
European governments, led by Germany, have pledged a united response and are weighing retaliatory measures after US President Donald Trump threatened tariffs over opposition to US interest in Greenland.
