""It makes absolutely no sense to talk about the United States needing to take control of Greenland," she said."
""We already have a defence agreement between the Kingdom and the USA, and this gives the Unites States wide access to Greenland," she continued."
""We need Greenland from the standpoint of national security, and Denmark is not going to be able to do it," he said in response to a reporter's question. "We'll worry about Greenland in about two months... let's talk about Greenland in 20 days.""
President Donald Trump said he "absolutely" needed Greenland and suggested the United States should consider annexing the territory. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said it makes no sense for the United States to take control of Greenland and that the United States has no right to annex one of the three countries in the Kingdom of Denmark. Frederiksen noted Denmark and thus Greenland are covered by NATO security guarantees and that an existing defence agreement gives the United States wide access to Greenland. She said Denmark has invested significantly in Arctic security and urged the United States to stop threatening a historical ally and a population that is not for sale. Trump's renewed calls and broader U.S. actions have reignited fears about Greenland's strategic vulnerability in the Arctic.
