Shots fired at Myrtle Beach gay nightclub, one detained
"Phillips said he was at the club doing paperwork that morning when he heard 'five or six' gunshots around 11 a.m. He quickly checked around outside and said he didn't see anyone fleeing the scene, but later discovered the windshield and a window of his vehicle had seemingly been shattered by bullets."
"'They pulled up right at the entrance on the side and started shooting,' said Phillips, and added that he was unsure if the incident was a hate crime or not."
"'I don't know if it's personal, I don't know if it's related to being gay, I don't know if it's related to the bar issues,' he told WMBF. 'Anybody with a mindset of pulling out a weapon in broad daylight is not right.'"
Myrtle Beach police are investigating a shooting incident at the Pulse Ultra Club. Officers responded to reports of shots fired around 10:57 a.m. on Wednesday. One person was detained after a vehicle matching the description was located. Club owner Ken Phillips reported hearing five or six gunshots and found his vehicle's windshield shattered. Security cameras captured a car driving in the wrong direction before the shooting. Phillips expressed uncertainty about the motive, questioning if it was a hate crime or personal issue.
