Donna Magrone died Sept. 22 at age 62 after a long career as a Staten Island nurse, case manager and union advocate. She moved from Brooklyn to Dongan Hills in 1967 and later settled in Huguenot in 2012. She raised her son, Vincent Lavin, as a single mother and worked the night shift in the emergency room at Staten Island University Hospital. In her 40s she returned to school, earned her nursing degree, and became a registered nurse in October 2008. She worked in the Critical Care Unit providing bedside care to medically complex patients and demonstrated leadership, clinical skill and strong patient-family connections.
