Philip Ogbewe was arrested in 2018 after a child he circumcised was hospitalised. He was on bail for that offence when he performed further circumcisions. He referred to himself as "Dr Philip" while carrying out procedures. He circumcised six infants and one five-year-old boy at locations in Dublin, Kildare and Wexford in 2018 and 2019. The earlier procedure was described as botched. He operated across multiple counties. He launched an appeal against his jail sentence, arguing he was not given sufficient credit for "seeing the light" and recognising the wrongfulness of his actions.
