Julie Bornstein's startup, Daydream, is publicly launching its AI-powered shopping chatbot focused on fashion. After extensive testing, the chatbot allows users to specify preferences and search for items interactively, including options to modify searches. Although it currently lacks an integrated checkout process, it connects users directly to merchant sites with over 8,000 brands available. The shopping experience is tailored through a 'style passport' created during onboarding, enhancing personalized discovery, reflecting Bornstein's vision of improving e-commerce search capabilities that have historically been under-optimized.
Having worked in e-commerce my whole career, search has always been the forgotten child, and it never worked very well. In some ways, people were tricked into thinking they were making informed purchasing decisions when in reality, they were just shown what was most popular or highly ranked.
The chatbot's ability to ask for users' names, birthdates, price ranges, and brand preferences ensures a personalized shopping experience that adapts to individual users' tastes and needs over time.
