AI satellites and sea drones unite to guard Europe's waters
Briefly

Ubotica has partnered with Fugro and DTACT to create an intelligence platform that enhances maritime security in Europe. This platform is designed to monitor critical underwater infrastructure such as gas pipelines and subsea cables. Combining data from drones, underwater vehicles, and uncrewed vessels, the system will provide a comprehensive view of maritime activity. This initiative responds to growing demands for improved surveillance following incidents like the Nord Stream sabotage and aims to support NATO countries in upgrading maritime defence capabilities.
Fintan Buckley, CEO of Ubotica, stated that this "space-to-seabed surveillance" could transform situational awareness at sea, enhancing maritime awareness and response capabilities.
Maritime surveillance of this kind has become increasingly in demand since the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline sabotage, highlighting the vulnerability of underwater assets to covert attacks.
Ivar de Josselin de Jong emphasized that the partnership enables "information-driven operations" for national security efforts, crucial in light of rising maritime threats.
The platform aims to fuse real-time data from sea, air, and space, creating a dynamic picture of maritime activity to monitor critical underwater infrastructure.
